St Mary’s golf bests Bishop Fenwick in close battle

The St. Mary’s golf team picked up another victory Tuesday, defeating Bishop Fenwick 169-149. Eric Bridges was the leading scorer for the Spartans with 29 points. Shea Newhall, Matt Smith, and Stephen Nasson played excellently, all scoring 26 points. Andrew Potter and Alex Chaisson each scored 21 and Josh Doney with 20 also played well. 

 

The victory makes the Spartans (5-2), and they will face off with Cardinal Spellman Wednesday, Sept. 21 at D.W. Fields in Brockton at 2:30 p.m. 

 

GOLF

Lynn Classical 47,

Everett 25

Classical moves to (1-2) on the season and (1-0) in league play with its victory over Everett. Brady Warren, TJ Walsh, Ethan Chavalier, Tori Marler, and Cooper Dalferro all played well in the Rams’ victory. 

Danvers 44, 

Swampscott 28

While Swampscott took a loss on the links, Ben O’Brien and Quinn Fitzpatrick played well in the matchup. Big Blue will look to right the ship in their next matchup Wednesday, Sept. 21 against Winthrop at Tedesco Country Club at 4 p.m. 

BOYS SOCCER

Peabody 6,

Marblehead 2

The Tanners raced off to a 4-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. Peabody is now (4-1-1) after the victory. AJ Forte and John Arruda led the way for Peabody with two goals each. Kyle Lobao scored, and Victor Maciel also notched a goal while assisting on another. Bruno Correia and Ryan Alves made some great passes; both had two assists. 

FIELD HOCKEY 

Swampscott 1,

Beverly 1

Swampscott’s Coco Clopton scored the lone goal for Big Blue, assisted by Sawyer Groothuis. Swampscott also had excellent midfield play from its captains, Olivia Baran and Brooke Waters. Goalie Cece O’Connor did her part to preserve the tie making five saves. Big Blue will gear up for their next game on the road against Gloucester on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 4:30. 

St. Mary’s 2,

Bishop Stang 1

The Spartans got a nice win over Bishop Stang with goals by senior Gianna Korisianos and junior Kasey Litwin.
