NAHANT— The Rams of Lynn Classical got back to .500 on the season as they took their match against Malden by a score of 43.5 to 28.5 at Kelley Greens golf course. Brady Warren, TJ Walsh, Ryan Dugan, Ethan Chavalier, and Kyle McKenna all had solid days on the course for the Rams. The victory brings Classical to a 3-3 record and hope to grab win number four when they take on the Peabody Tanners on Thursday.
GOLF
Masconomet 46, Peabody 26
Though the Tanners lost a tough one to Masconomet Tuesday afternoon, the team had some strong finishes from their top players. Peabody’s number one, Ryan Brunet, tied his match at 4.5 and number three Matt Ryder pulled out a victory, winning 5 holes to his opponents 4. Number five, Sam Oliveri also won his match by a score of 5-4. The Tanners will try to get back in the win column on Thursday in a showdown against Lynn Classical.
St. Mary’s 178, St. Joe’s Prep 75
The Spartans continue to steamroll their competition, winning their match against St. Joe’s Prep by a commanding 103 point margin. Eric Bridges had a 31 point performance with teammates Andrew Potter, Stephen Nason, and Anthony Barror all adding 26 point outings to the team’s score. Kyle Rush was close behind with a 25 point match with Shea Newhall and Bree Dan Zollo contributing 22 points as well, respectively. St. Mary’s is now 7-2 on the season and will try to continue its rich success against Bishop Stang on Wednesday at Gannon Municipal Golf Course.
VOLLEYBALL
Peabody 3, Salem 0
The Tanners took out the Witches in straight sets Tuesday evening thanks to a dominant performance by Michaela Alperen, who recorded 22 service points and 6 aces. The Tanners allowed only 3 points in the first set, winning 25-3 and cruising the rest of the way with a 25-19 score in the second and a 25-13 score in the third set. Thais Rosa, Maddie Castro, Kayla Landry, and Belle Turco were all effective in the win as well with two kills apiece. Peabody will attempt to take the momentum of Tuesday’s performance into Thursday’s road matchup with Beverly.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Bishop Fenwick – 29 – Cardinal Spellman – 30, St Mary’s 15 Bishop Fenwick – 44
The Spartans took the top five spots in Tuesday’s tri meet between St. Mary’s, Cardinal Spellman, and Bishop Fenwick. Leading the way for St. mary’s were juniors Kyle Kwiatek, Matthew Terrien, and Matheus Menezes-Avendanha as well as seniors Jesse Moriello and Anthony D’Itria. The win on Tuesday’s marks the Spartans 10th straight duel meet win for the boys team dating back to the 2021 season. Meanwhile for Fenwick, they were able to pull out a narrow one point victory over Cardinal Spellman. Fenwick was able to defeat Spellman with an impressive 1-2-3 finish by the freshman trio of Samuel Appleyard, Brayden Pouliot, and Doron Appleyard. Fenwick travels to Arlington Catholic on Thursday, October 6th for a make up meet at Menotomy Rocks Park. Meanwhile, St. Mary’s will host Bishop Stang and Arlington Catholic Tuesday, October 11th at Lynn Woods.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Bishop Fenwick – 20 – St Mary’s 40, Bishop Fenwick – 15 – Cardinal Spellman – 48
The Fenwick girls cross country team beat St. Mary’s and Cardinal Spellman in commanding fashion Tuesday evening. Freshman Marianna Kay won the meet with a time of 20:55, marking her first high school victory. Fellow freshman Julia Davis was close behind with a second place finish. Fenwick’s young core showed out as 8th grader Kelsey Kwiatek took third place, running a time of 21:03, just in front of 7th grader Nina Lopes who came in third with a time of 22:54.
