Manchester Essex has been one of the Massachusetts high school programs to remain undefeated through four weeks, but not anymore. Friday night, Juan Setelsingh logged three touchdowns through the air for KIPP – also finishing the game with two interceptions. The defense, overall, had four interceptions, and Head Coach James Rabbitt also credits his boys for halting the opposing ground game. KIPP eyes a win against Old Rochester Regional next Saturday, Oct. 15 on the road at 2:00 p.m.
Hamilton-Wenham 0, Lynnfield 30
In a battle of 2-2 teams, it was Lynnfield taking care of business on Friday night, 30-0. The respective defenses each held their own for a large portion of the game, as the first points of the contest weren’t tallied until the third quarter. It wasn’t until the fourth when the onslaught began. Jack Calichman got a receiving touchdown, and sophomore running back Jared Bernabei delivered on the ground. Head Coach Pat Lamusta describes his defense as the “heart and soul” of his team, and credits Robert Marley III and Steven Dreher for their leadership. Next on the schedule for Lynnfield is a home game against Pentucket on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. – Crucial Catch night at Lynnfield High.
Masco 7, Marblehead 28
Two solid programs went toe to toe in a back and forth affair, but ultimately, it was Marblehead who ran away with a 28-7 triumph. Tied 7-7 at the half, Marblehead found the endzone to take the lead by the end of the third. The Magicians would sprinkle some magic on the fourth quarter’s statistics page, however, and tack on two more scores. Marblehead hosts Beverly next week with kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
Chelsea 0, English 23
Both teams have struggled in their 2022 campaigns, but tonight, Lynn English picked up their first win of the season and ran away with a 23-0 victory over Chelsea. Edwin Castro scored all three touchdowns for the home team – sending the Bulldog faithful home happy. The team takes on Malden next week at Manning Field (6:00 p.m.)
Lynn Tech 8, Nashoba Tech 22
Nashoba Valley Tech has held a perfect record this season. Friday night, they kept their streak alive with a 22-8 victory over the Tigers. Nashoba scored the first 16 points of the game, but with around 11 minutes to play, Lynn Tech made things interesting with Tyler David finding the endzone – along with tacking on the conversion – to cut the lead in half at 16-8. He rushed for over 100 yards on the night. Unfortunately for his team, however, their comeback bid fell short – falling to 2-2 on the season. Lynn Tech takes part in a Saturday game on Oct. 15 against Tech Boston with kickoff at 6:00 p.m.
Malden Catholic 0, St. John’s Prep 50
Against a Malden Catholic team that has yet to pick up a win this season, the Eagles kept it that way with a 50-0 thrashing to move to 4-1 on the season. Stephon Patrick returned an early punt 50 yards to start the scoring, and Lynn native Marquese Avery had seven tackles in the first half alone. Carson Browne and junior Dylan Aliberti each found the endzone on multiple occasions as well. Shutting out the opposition, Head Coach Brian St. Pierre described his defense as “very stout,” and said he was impressed with how his front seven played on Friday. St. John’s Prep plays Saturday, Oct. 15 in a 1:00 p.m. matinee against Catholic Memorial.
St. Mary’s 48, Stang 6
St. Mary’s scored the first points of the game on a David Brown touchdown, and never looked back. The team was led by quarterback Tyler Guy who was responsible for five touchdowns – utilizing both his arm and his feet. Versatility was on point as multiple Spartans were involved in the action on the road, including Ernie Panias and Nick Sacco. The team plays Archbishop Willaims on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. on the road.
