October 13, 2022 by Joey Barrett

The St. Mary’s girls soccer team clinched a spot in the MIAA state tournament Thursday night with a dominating 7-1 win over Arlington Catholic. It took only 32 seconds for the Spartans to get on the board thanks to a Lily Norton goal. St. Mary’s poured it on in the wet conditions with the help of Sophie Skabeikis who had a hat trick, and Brooke Moloney who tacked on two goals. Riley Maguire scored as well. The team looks to head into the state tournament with a strong finish in their next three games, starting with a road matchup against rival Bishop Fenwick Monday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER
Lynn Classical 3, Somerville 0
The Rams handled the Highlanders with ease Thursday night. Sophomore Gianna Parker got the scoring started for Classical in the first half off of an assist from Freshman Dulce Juarez. Classical added two goals to ensure their victory in the second half. Senior Captain Delaney Dana assisted on both second half goals and were scored by Junior Kaleigh Bullock and fellow Senior Captain Ava Thurman. Junior goalie Lauren Wilson recorded her 10th shutout of the season to cap off a great night defensively. The Rams advance to a record of 10-2-1 and will face Winthrop this Saturday at 1 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER
KIPP Academy 8, Nashoba 0
The Panthers put on an offensive show against Nashoba Wednesday night in a game where senior captain Kevin Rodriguez scored half the team’s goals. Fellow senior Jefferson Pass scored three times and tacked on an assist. In completely opposite fashion from Pass, senior captain Kenny Deleon scored one goal and had three assists. Sophomore Helder Deleon added two assists and fellow Sophomore Rafael Consoro assisted on one of the team’s eight goals as well. The shutout was goalkeeper Angel Lopez’s sixth of the season, and Pass brought his goal total to 14. KIPP advances to 8-5 overall, but more importantly, their 8-1 record in conference play keeps them atop the standings. The Panthers travel to Innovation Academy next Wednesday at 4 p.m.

GOLF
Peabody 36.5, Swampscott 35.5
It can’t get any closer than the match played between the Tanners and the Big Blue at Tedesco. In their final matches as seniors at Peabody High, Ryan Brunet (5-4), Matt Richards (5-4), Jacob Richards (6.5-2.5), and Trot Smith (4.5-4.5), all won or tied their matches. The team ends its fall campaign on a high note and finishes with a record of 6-8.

Lynn Classical 45, Everett 27
The Rams outplayed the Crimson Tide at Gannon Golf Course on Thursday afternoon thanks to Brady Warren, who scored one under par for the second match in a row. TJ Walsh, Christian Spates and Kyle McKenna all helped their team cruise to a victory. Classical improves to 10-5 and remains undefeated in GBL play at 9-0.

FIELD HOCKEY
Gloucester 2, Marblehead 0
The Lady Magicians lost another close one, this time to the Fishermen of Gloucester. Defensively, goalie Maggie Beauchesne impressed again with 15 saves despite giving up the pair of goals. Lane Kaeyer, Kealy Satterfield, and James Marcy all played solid games for Marblehead.
