The St. Mary’s boys soccer team defeated Arlington Catholic on Friday, 6-0, to advance to the playoffs. Kaya Jackson paced the team, finding the back of the net three times in the victory. St. Mary’s moves to 8-2-1 on the season and will battle Arlington Catholic again this Sunday, Oct. 16 at Manning Field (6:30 p.m.).
FOOTBALL
Lynnfield 41, Pentucket 7
Pentucket was winless heading into Friday night’s contest, and the Pioneers kept it that way – allowing just one score en route to a blowout victory. James Sharkey had a touchdown run and two interceptions; Robert Marley collected a pick-six and a touchdown run – both in the second quarter. Returning from injury, Joey Cucciniello caught a touchdown pass as well. The Pioneers moved to 4-2 on the season. Head Coach Pat Lamusta credits chunk plays, special teams play, and an early lead as the main reasons they were able to snag the win.
Marblehead 41, Beverly 0
In front of their home faithful, the Magicians picked up win number five of the season. With last week’s victory over Masconomet Regional, Friday’s triumph over the Panthers marks consecutive wins. The Magicians are now 5-1 in their 2022 campaign and travel to Danvers on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Peabody 28, Winthrop 7
The Tanners remain undefeated this season, defeating Winthrop on their home turf. Danny Barrett hauled in two touchdown grabs, Alan Paulino scored a return touchdown on the game’s first play, and Shea Lynch showed off his versatiltiy – completing passes to eight different receivers.
VOLLEYBALL
Peabody 3, Woburn 1
In set scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, and 25-23, the Tanners knocked off Woburn with a set to spare. Maddie Castro scored six kills to go along with two blocks. Abby Bettencourt racked up 27 assists, while Isabel Bettencourt contributed with eight kills and 17 service points. Peabody moves to 10-3 on the season.
St. Mary’s 3, Winthrop 1
Ana Silveira rattled off 10 consecutive points during the fourth set – propelling St. Mary’s to their second win of the week. Set scores showed 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, and 25-19.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lynn Tech 1, Burke 1
The Tigers tied Burke on Friday evening, headlined by Shery Hernandez collecting the team’s lone goal. Lynn Tech has wins over English, Tech Boston, and KIPP this season – looking for win number four on Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. against Greater Lawrence.
