The Lynn Classical golf team won the Greater Boston League championship on Tuesday at Kelley Greens. Brady Warren – named Player of the Year – won the individual championship, shooting a 65. Ryan Dugan and TJ Walsh finished second and third respectively. Dugan, Walsh, and Ethan Chavalier were named to the All-Star team, and the Rams finished the season undefeated in GBL play.
The Bulldogs’ golf team finished in 2nd place in the GBL championship, headlined by Brendan Falasca who finished 4th in the individual tournament, and Alex MacMilan who finished 5th. John Crowley and Mateo Rodriquez also represented English in individual play, and the Bulldogs finished 5-5 on the season.
Marblehead – DII No. Sectionals Qualifying Tournament
The Marblehead golf team finished in 5th place out of 14 field teams in the Division II No. Sectional qualifiers – shooting a 332. Co-captain Matt Weed posted the team’s lowest score, 77, and qualified for the Division II individual championship at Maplegate Country Club in Bellingham on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Christopher Locke and Charlie Grenier each shot 84, Jacob Hershfield and Marty Ryan each shot 87, and co-captain Jacob Aizanman recorded a 92. Marblehead plays its last match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 19 vs Masco at Ferncroft Country Club.
St. Mary’s – DII No. Sectional Qualifying Tournament
The St. Mary’s Spartans golf team finished 9th out of 13 qualifying teams in the Division II No. Sectional tournament, scoring a 337. Shea Newhall led the way – shooting a 78 and finishing 11th out of 85 shooters. He missed the state final qualification by just one shot.
BOYS SOCCER
Peabody 10, Swampscott 3
The Peabody boys soccer team defeated Swampscott at Blocksidge field on Tuesday, 10-3. From the start, Peabody used its versatility and ball movement to take down the Big Blue. Coming off of his Item Player of the Week nod, John Arruda scored five goals. Ryan Alves and Nathan Braz each scored twice, and Hugo Countinho netted the other. Bruno Correia played the role of the facilitator, dishing out six assists. Peabody returns to action against Marblehead on Thursday and moves to 11-2-2 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lynn Tech 1, Academy of Notre Dame 0
Helen Pojoy scored the lone goal to lead the Lynn Tech girls soccer team past the Academy of Notre Dame on Tuesday. Elibette Rodriguez posted a shutout between the posts – coming up with timely saves to keep things scoreless. Tech moves to 6-8-2 on the season and travels to face Fontbonne on Monday, Oct. 24 at 3:45 p.m.
Danvers 4, Saugus 0
The Falcons’ girls soccer team blanked Saugus on Tuesday with three different goal-scorers finding the back of the net. Georgia Prouty scored twice, while Courtney Hinchion and Ellie Anderson each tallied goals. Emily Goddard recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
Classical 6, Malden 0
Mea Papazoglou found the back of the net four times on Tuesday, leading the Rams to a 6-0 victory over Malden. Tatiana Lazo and Ava Thurman also tallied goals. Gianna Parker, Thurman, Lazo, and Fahely Escobar all racked up assists. Lauren Wilson put up a five-save shutout, and has 21 saves in her last two games. Classical takes on English on senior day this Thursday, Oct. 20 at Manning Field with game time at 5:30 p.m.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Lynn Classical cross country team battled against the Everett Crimson Tide on Tuesday at the Lynn Woods Reservation. The girls team escaped with a tight 30-25 victory with Pamela Perlera, Maegan Baker, and Sharlyn Espinal all running well for the Lady Rams. The boys team ran a strong race, but lost 23-32. Alex Gonya finished 2nd overall.
Bishop Feehan 22, St. Mary’s 37
The Spartans were bested by the Shamrocks on Tuesday, but not without some success. Kyle Kwiatek took 1st place in the race with a time of 17:17, and Matt Terrien took 5th place with an 18:39. Tuesday was the last dual-meet of the season for St. Mary’s.
