SWAMPSCOTT — Two Swampscott police officers were honored during the 2022 Massachusetts Latino Police Officers award ceremony Saturday.

Officer Sal Caruso and Detective Ted Delano were honored at the 2022 Awards and Recognition Ceremony, which highlighted the exceptional work of those who have gone above and beyond to keep communities across Massachusetts safe.

Caruso was awarded the MLPO Community Service Award for his work and volunteer work as the department’s housing authority and elder service officer. He has served as the housing authority liaison for 20 years, and is working with the authority’s director to  get kids living in public housing more involved in the community.

“It’s just part of the job that you enjoy and that I wouldn’t call it work. It’s easy for us to do good things when people are watching,” Caruso said. “It’s doing the things when nobody is watching, that’s what makes the difference.”

Delano was awarded a certificate of Special Recognition for his work with family issues. Caruso described Delano as the nicest and most knowledgeable officer in the station.
