The Bulldogs’ Jarvin Simon rushed for three touchdowns and quarterback Edwin Castro added another two on the ground. English Head Coach Anthony LaFratta said linebacker Julius Monsieur was effective from start to finish. Gio Batista also found the endzone on Friday. BOYS SOCCER

Stoneham 1, KIPP 0
In a Friday matchup against Stoneham, KIPP fell to 10-6 on the season heading into next week’s Senior Night on Wednesday against Lynn Tech (7). Despite the defeat, KIPP has two victories on the week with Gabriel Barrios, Jelder DeLeon, and senior captain Kenny DeLeon all contributing throughout the stretch.

Lynnfield 4, Manchester Essex 2
The Pioneers (11-3-3) started slowly but rallied from a 1-0 first-half deficit to top the host Hornets, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Hyland Field. “We played poorly in the first half and really lacked focus, to be honest,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “A game like today is tough because with the power rankings, you must beat these teams by at least three goals or you don’t get the points you need to have a high ranking.” Sophomore Dillon Reilly had a big game with three goals and one assist. Senior captain Alex Gentile also scored. The Pioneers wrap up the regular season Tuesday when they travel to Pentucket Regional Middle School to take on the 4-8-1 Sachems at 4.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynnfield 1, Manchester Essex 1
The Pioneers outshot the visiting Hornets but settled for a 1-1 tie Friday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium. Lynnfield took the lead at the 27-minute mark of the first half when sophomore Emma Rose finished a feed from fellow sophomore Clara Caulfield. Manchester-Essex answered about 10 minutes later to tie the game, 1-1. Lynnfield had several good chances late in the game. With a little more than five minutes left, Pioneer junior goalkeeper Ava Gamache sent a free kick from the 35-yard line into the box to a Lynnfield striker who had slipped in behind the defense, but the ball sailed out of bounds. About a minute later, Gamache lofted a 30-yard free kick into the box. The kick was dropped by the Manchester-Essex keeper, who recovered the 50-50 ball and cleared. With under a minute to go in the game, freshman Bella Sykes broke in and forced a corner kick. Rose lofted a perfect ball, hooking toward the goal, but the Hornets’ defense was first to the ball and cleared. “I thought we worked hard and played right to the end and moved the ball pretty well, but we just have to win the 50-50 balls,” said coach Mark Vermont. “I think that’s the biggest thing – to win those 50-50 ball battles and if we do, things are a little different. But we’re just not winning the 50-50 balls.” Lynnfield is 6-5-4 and back on the pitch Tuesday at home against Pentucket (4).

VOLLEYBALL

Lynnfield 3, North Andover 0
Senior Ella Gizmunt had a monster game to lead the Pioneers (14-3) to a straight-set sweep over the Scarlet Knights, 25-15, 25-13, 25-18 Friday at North Andover High. Gizmunt finished with 16 kills, 10 digs and eight aces. Fellow senior Celia Carbone also had a big, all-around game with 32 assists, eight digs and four aces. Senior Giuliana Guarrancino had 14 digs and 10 kills and sophomore Erika Pasquale had six kills and five blocks. “We played super tonight,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Ashley. The Pioneers look to complete a season sweep against visiting Georgetown Monday (5:30).
