At the DII state championship played at Maplegate Country Club in Bellingham, Marblehead’s Matt Weed impressed on Tuesday – shooting a 76 that was 4-over par. The showing was good for 16th place out of 87 shooters. Weed’s performance continues what’s been a busy week for him. At the DII North Sectional qualifier, Weed’s score of 77 led Marblehead to fifth place out of 14 teams, and at the NEC Open championship on Monday, he shot an 83 and finished in third place at the Salem Country Club.
FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 3, Saugus 0
Maggie Beauchesne continued her impressive play this season with a six-save shutout for Marblehead’s field hockey team on Tuesday. The Magicians defeated the Sachems, 3-0, with players contributing from up and down the roster. Peighton Ridge, Lucy Rubino, and Kealy Satterfield were the goal-scorers, while Kate Bickell, Isabelle Ferrante, and Rubino dished out assists. Marblehead hosts Malden Catholic on Thursday at 4 p.m. to complete its regular season.
VOLLEYBALL
Feehan 3, St. Mary’s 0
The Bishop Feehan volleyball team continued its dominance on Tuesday against St. Mary’s, but not without some Spartan positives. Nadia Del Sonno was credited with nine aces and 16 service points to lead the offense, while Ava Kidd shined on defense. St. Mary’s wraps its season on Thursday with the Spartans traveling to take on Bishop Stang at 6 p.m.
Peabody 3, Haverhill 1
In set scores of 25-33, 25-30, 19-25, and 25-19, the Tanners extended their win streak to eight matches. The big story: Abby Bettencourt had 34 assists and got her 1,000th career assist to go along with the 3-1 victory. Lizzy and Isabel Bettencourt combined for 32 kills while Lauryn Mendoca and Kayla Landry combined for seven blocks. Michaela Alperen contributed with three aces and Allie Flewelling played outstanding defense. Peabody is now 16-3 with its Senior Night on Thursday against Winthrop at 5:30 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER
St. Mary’s 2, Bishop Feehan 2
The Spartans’ boy soccer team tied a talented Feehan team on Monday, 2-2. Nick Miller and Cade Cornell found the back of the net for St. Mary’s in the draw. It was a matchup between two teams who have now combined for 21 wins compared to just six losses. St. Mary’s takes on Stang on Wednesday.
