PEABODY — A 39-year-old North Andover woman was taken to a Boston-area hospital via medical helicopter with serious injuries after an 82-year-old Danvers man struck the car she was a passenger in on Route 1 Thursday afternoon.
State Police were called to the area of Route 1 near the Interstate 95 southbound ramp for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 2:36 p.m. Thursday, David Procopio, a spokesman for the agency, said in an e-mail. The woman suffered “serious lower body injuries,” Procopio said.
The Danvers man, who was driving a 2021 Chevy Silverado, was issued a criminal summons for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, State Police said. A 53-year-old Lynn man was operating the 2015 Audi A4 that was struck.
The highway was closed in both directions for med flight operations, and the ramp to Interstate 95 southbound was also closed during the response to the crash.
Route 1 was reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m., though the Massachusetts Department of Transportation warned drivers to expect residual delays.
