LYNN — 11 people, six children and five adults, were displaced from their home on 62 Laighton St. at 7:42 p.m. Monday night after three engines and three ladders from the Lynn Fire Department extinguished a fire on the first floor of the multifamily home.
A resident living on the first floor of the two and a half story house was tending to trick or treaters out front when she discovered the fire and called 9-1-1.
District Fire Chief Joseph Zukas said that when Engine One arrived first on the scene, they saw flames coming up through the right hand side of the building. He said that firefighters were able to contain the fire to the first floor.
“When crews arrived there was fire coming out the right hand side of the building extending on the outside of the house up to the second floor, so the crews did a good coordinated attack, and they did a good job of keeping it to the first floor,” Zukas said.
Zukas said that all of the building’s smoke detectors functioned properly, and that all residents were able to evacuate the building before fire fighters arrived. Lynn Fire rescued a dog trapped on the second floor.
While the first floor apartment took in “extensive damage” from the fire, no one was injured. Zukas said that the fire’s cause is under investigation at this time.
