Team of the Week – St. Mary’s Spartans (Football)

Joey Barrett

November 2, 2022 by Joey Barrett

You know what I’ve been thinking? St. Mary’s football can’t be stopped. In fact, they haven’t been stopped on the field since September. But, this is the team of the week, so, let’s look at this past Friday. St. Mary’s traveled to take on Archbishop Williams and left with a 35-19 victory – improving to 7-1 on the season. There were two major storylines on Friday. Firstly, the Spartans’ superstar running back David Brown racked up five touchdowns – yes, you read that correctly. Behind a stellar offensive line, Brown showed off his athleticism and explosiveness one play after another. Secondly, St. Mary’s captured the Catholic Central league title. In their conference victories this season, the Spartans have outscored Catholic Central teams (Feehan, Stang, Arlington Catholic, Spellman, and now Archbishop Williams) by a whopping margin of 185-64. Unfortunately for the Bishops, they have to play the Spartans again this Friday at 6:30 p.m. – this time at Manning Field. St. Mary’s football, good week.
