LYNN— Massachusetts State Police from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) arrested Sherome Pight, of Dorchester, Tuesday morning, in connection to last week’s shooting on Chase Street.
VFAS troopers arrested Pight at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, in Winchester for assault to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, felony firearm use, armed robbery, unlawful and improper storage of a firearm, and unlicensed possession of ammunition.
Pight was brought into Lynn District Court Tuesday morning, where he was held without bail following Judge Lynn Rooney’s ruling of probable cause.
Last week, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, Lynn Police and State Police STOP Team troopers blocked off a large portion of Chase Street while they searched for a male suspect who fired a handgun at a man, missed, and then barricaded himself inside a house.
Although police were unable to find the suspect, Lt. Michael Kmiec, of the Lynn Police Department, said that police found a handgun on the scene, which police believe belonged to Pight.
Kmiec said that police are testing the recovered firearm to determine whether or not it matches the shell casings found at the scene. He said that the gun, along with combined investigations from State Police and Lynn Police detectives, ultimately led to Pight’s arrest.
“It just holds to the investigation that was done by the detectives. Obviously Mass State Police assisted with the event on that day, and our detectives took over the investigation and led them to see charges for him. They also recovered a firearm at the scene that night, so that’s where the charges stem from,” Kmiec said.
