Gov. Charlie Baker received high praise on Wednesday from the discussion panel that makes up the ABC talk show “The View.”
During their discussion on former President Donald Trump’s announcement Tuesday that he will be running for president in 2024, the women veered into a discussion on other potential presidential candidates with co-host Sara Haines suggesting Baker, a Swampscott resident, should make the cut.
Haines even admitted that she had never heard of Baker until an interview between journalist Jake Tapper and the governor. Elected in 2014, Baker in polls has been consistently labeled the nation’s most popular governor. He announced last year his decision not to seek a third term.
“You know who I’m really won over by right now? I saw a Jake Tapper interview with Governor Charlie Baker from Massachusetts. I had never heard of him before,” Haines said. “73 percent popularity in a blue state for a Republican governor. Who when you watch this interview he talks about how he did politics in the old-fashioned way of going to people and how he listens more, talks less. This is the guy the Republican Party should be grabbing.”
Co-host Ana Navarro added to Haines comments, emphasizing Baker’s decision to not run for a third term and what it could mean.
“He decided not to run again, he’s no longer going to be in office,” Navarro said, to which Haines responded: “Maybe he’s thinking the same way I am, and this guy could be really good.”
Joy Behar ended the conversation with comments about how she ran into a similar situation when talking about U.S Senator Jon Tester of Montana.
“Last time I said something like that about Jon Tester in Montana that he would be a good candidate, he called me up, so maybe, you (Sara Haines) might get a call.”
