The future looks bright for Marblehead’s senior girls lacrosse player Sydney Langton, as she recently committed to Iona to continue her lacrosse career as a Gael.

Langton is excited about the future, but feels sad this will be her last season playing for the Magicians.

“It really is sad that my high school career is coming to an end, but I am really excited for the season to start,” Langton said. “I know we are going to have a young team, but I have heard really good things about the freshmen class that is coming in, which gives me all the confidence that we are going to have a really strong team this year.”

Langton also mentioned that she spoke with a few schools, but Iona really stood out and she is happy they wanted her to be a part of their program.

“I first was introduced to Iona when I attended a Division 1 clinic,” Langton said. “Once I met the coaching staff, and the girls that are on the team now, I knew this was the place I wanted to be and the team I wanted to play for. The location is also perfect, and I am truly excited for that chapter of my life to start.”

Marblehead head coach Annie Madden also felt Langton made a great decision choosing Iona.

“I felt that Iona was the best school for Sydney to continue her lacrosse career, and will also be the right choice for her academically,” Madden said.

Last season, Langton was named an NEC Dunn Division all-star, and Madden feels she will be accomplishing much more this year.

“I feel Sydney will be seen and noticed much more this upcoming season,” Madden said. “Sydney is poised to have an amazing senior year, and I cannot wait to see how it unfolds.”

Langton will be named a captain for the second consecutive season, and Madden believes that captainship is one of the best words to describe her with.

“Sydney is really the perfect person to be a captain,” Madden said. “She is talented, motivated, hardworking, driven, and is able to set a great example for the younger players so they can really see what being a great player and a great teammate is all about.”

Marblehead expects to field a team on the younger side, and Madden feels fortunate that Langton will be the one leading the group.

“We are really lucky to have Sydney in a Marblehead uniform,” Madden said. “She can really show how all the facets of lacrosse are important, and this is going to be needed with having a young team to lead. I think Sydney is going to knock this season out of the park, and I feel her ability to lead and do all the little things is going to rub off on the younger players, which will make us a better team than we were last season.”

Madden has no doubts of Langton succeeding at the next level.

“Sydney is self-motivated, confident, coachable, and is always looking to become a better player,” Madden said. “Sydney is willing to learn, and is adaptable depending on whatever the team needs. I think the Iona coaching staff is going to learn this very quickly, and they will soon know how lucky they are to have her on their team.”

As for a potential focus in the classroom, Langton isn’t quite sure yet.

“I am interested in business and law, but I am not sure what I really want to do,” Langton said. “I will be taking a bunch of different classes, but I am excited for the journey.”
