NAHANT – The community preservation committee reviewed a grant application and made adaptations during a meeting Tuesday. Residents who are interested could bring their ideas of how to develop Nahant to the committee soon, and even better, build the projects themselves with funds after approval.
The grants are open for all Nahant residents to apply and would go towards open space, historic preservation, community housing, and recreation. There is no upper limit on the grant budget, but the available amount for the grant is approximately $360,000 annually, according to community preservation committee chair Lynne Spencer.
Residents will be able to apply shortly after some changes are made on the Town of Nahant website.
On Dec. 13 there will be a public meeting and applicants can bring their ideas and questions. At the meeting, community needs will be explored, according to Spencer. The application deadline for the grants will be Jan. 27.
Some amendments to the guidelines were made during the meeting. The committee agreed on having an end date for projects. Applicants can apply for extensions on projects as well. It also requires a final report when the project is completed. The committee also states that one could not apply for a new similar grant if the current project is not completed.
New guidelines removed the restriction on the start date of the projects since there will be a requirement on the end date. The committee will add serial numbers to each grant for better administrative management.
