You know what I’ve been thinking? What happened on Saturday doesn’t happen often. The St. John’s Prep Eagles defeated Springfield Central, 13-0, to win their third Division 1 Super Bowl title under head coach Brian St. Pierre, and sixth in program history. Here’s the thing: Springfield Central, who’s won three consecutive divisional Super Bowls, averaged more than 50 points per game heading into the contest, and the Prep not only won, but allowed zero points underneath the bright lights of Gillette Stadium. Superstar running back Carson Browne ran for 131 yards on 38 carries, and was fearless against one of the top defenses in the state. St. John’s Prep won back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019, both over Catholic Memorial, and after Saturday it’s safe to say – a dynasty has been born. The Prep went 11-2 this season, scored 452 points, allowed just 139 points, and topped it off with a hard-fought win over Springfield Central in the title game. The student section loved it, The Prep faithful on social media loved it, and who wouldn’t? To St. John’s Prep, aka, the champs, good week.
