NAHANT – The Annual Tommy Hutton Christmas Parade will take place later this month, and the Nahant Police Department welcomes the neighborhood to join in on the festivities.
The Nahant Village Church, 27 Cliff St., is the starting point for the parade on Dec. 17, at 6 p.m.The route will finish back at the Church and traverses the town’s main thoroughfares.
Santa will visit from the North Pole and ride on the back of an old fire truck, which has been repurposed by Johns Oil of Lynn for this special trip around Nahant.
Together with Police Chief Joseph Manley and Lt. Dean Palombo; Hutton, a lieutenant at the time, founded the Nahant Christmas Parade in 1995 to spread holiday cheer throughout the community. From a small number of police cruisers, the parade has expanded to include tow trucks, public-safety vehicles, and municipal vehicles from Nahant and other nearby communities. Hutton’s parade was given a new name after his passing in 2015.
Participants in the procession will receive a bag of candy to toss along the route and there will be hot chocolate available. Participants are also invited to the Tides Restaurant & Pub for pizza and refreshments after the parade.
The Tides will have its annual Christmas fundraiser as part of the holiday season on Dec. 10, at 5 p.m. Reservations are requested, but not required. Proceeds from the event will support at least two graduating high school students, in the form of scholarships, who have been through the Nahant School system and who are living in Nahant. These scholarships honor applicants’ voluntary work and community service, whether in or out of school.
A seven-day cruise from Boston to Bermuda will be raffled off. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the event or at the Nahant Police Station (cash or Venmo accepted)
