SAUGUS — Roller World Owner Gerry Breen is offering a reward for anyone with information about the vandalism that caused thousands of dollars in damage to his Route 1 skating rink.
Roller World, he said, has been in business more than 40 years and has never had anything akin to what happened on Saturday night. The rink closes at 11 p.m. on Saturdays and about 10 minutes before closing at least one person, and possibly more, broke open the door in the building’s lobby.
The vandals, according to Breen, broke the panic bar on the door in half, and he theorized that doing so would require standing on the door itself.
Breen said he was in the process of getting security camera footage from outside the building processed in the hopes that it would identify a subject.
“There should be a good picture of the person,” he said. “They did a lot of damage and we’ll make sure they never do it again.”
Police were called to the rink at 425 Broadway at 8:10 a.m. Saturday morning, and officers found that the door had been broken from the inside.
Breen said he had no set amount of money he would pay out as a reward, but said it would be at least $100.
“We’ve never had anyone do that kind of damage,” he said.
