The St. John’s Prep wrestling team is off to a 4-0 start after handling Londonderry (45-24), Weymouth (66-18), Foxboro (64,16), and Haverhill (50-27) on Saturday. Alex Schaeublin, Elias Hajali, Jimmy Lally, Jayden D’Ambrosio, Rawson Iwanicki, Marc Pineiro, and Charlie Smith were all 4-0 on the day, while Braedon Goes and Charlie Poor each went 3-1.
SWIMMING
Beverly 81, Fenwick 76
The Bishop Fenwick swim team held its first interleague meet at the Greater Beverly YMCA on Sunday, but lost to a tough Beverly team 81-76. First place finishes were senior captain Meredith Yuhasz (200 freestyle, 2:17.95; 500 freestyle, 5:23) who qualified for sectionals and states in both events. Freshman Charles Kurti (100 breaststroke, 1:23.31) also impressed, while fellow freshman Caroline Blatchford qualified for both sectionals and states in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.97. Senior captain Audrey Waldinger qualified for sectionals in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.90, and in the 400 freestyle relay, senior captains Hannah English, Meredith Yuhasz, Audrey Waldinger, and freshman Caroline Blatchford recorded a 4:03.53.
BOYS HOCKEY
Everett 8, Lynn 1
The Lynn Jets lost to Everett in boys ice hockey 8-1, and regardless of the score, the team showed no resilience and never gave up. The lone goal was scored by AJ Alessi for his first career high school point and goal. Julius Serino, an 8th grader, stood out on defense. The third line was made up of all middle school players, who held their own and played very well. Steven DiFilippo had a strong game between the pipes with 70 saves
Peabody 13, St. Joseph Prep 4
The Tanners’ boys hockey team picked up their first win, taking care of St. Joseph Prep with ease. Dante Mauro had three goals and three assists, while Ashton Sousa made 21 saves. Michael Capone had a hat trick and an assist, and Joe Soares grabbed two goals.
St. Mary’s 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 2
Down 2-0? No problem for the Spartans’ boys hockey team as they scored four unanswered to knock off Bridgewater-Raynham. Ben Fry (2), Jack Hall, and Cam McGonagle were the goal-scorers.
GIRLS HOCKEY
The St. Mary’s girls hockey team defeated Bishop Fenwick 7-1 with the Spartans’ Jenna Chaplain scoring her 100th career goal. Chloe Sullivan scored her first career goal, while Gabbi Oakes contributed as well with two goals.
