NAHANT – A polar plunge will take place at Short Beach in Nahant at 12 p.m. on Jan. 1. The event is called Freezin’ for a Reason, and it asks people to jump into the icy ocean to raise money and celebrate the new year.
The Sonia and Capano families have chosen Camp Fire North Shore as this year’s Freezin’ for a Reason beneficiary. A fundraiser at Rolly’s Tavern will follow the plunge at 2 p.m. All raffle donations, along with a portion of the food and drink sales, will go directly to Camp Fire North Shore.
Camp Fire North Shore is a nonprofit youth organization that has been around for 75 years, serving children and families across the North Shore. Since its inception, Freezin’ for a Reason has raised over $120,000 for several causes, including Homes for our Troops, the Michele Durgin Scholarship Fund, the Kelly Martin Autism Fund, Camp Rotary of Lynn, and Rally for Ricky Fund for West Syndrome.
