GE donates to Salvation Army

LYNN — General Electric (GE) gave a check for $35,000 last week to the Salvation Army to go toward children’s presents and the pantry fund.

This donation came out of GE’s Good Neighbor Fund (GNF), which is funded by employee contributions and earmarked for local causes. The GNF is an employee-managed, voluntary nonprofit fund that raises contributions for a variety of philanthropic causes by offering GE employees a single place to donate money. In the past, the fund has supported the Salvation Army, the Haven Project, Habitat PLUS Inc. and more.

“Our focus is to support underprivileged communities including food pantries, shelters, veterans, education, health and economic development in Lynn and the surrounding areas,” said GE.

In the past year, GE said there was some turnover on the GNF board, but they are excited to see what new ideas and initiatives will be instituted next year.

“We are still in the process of issuing all of our donations for this year,” GE said.

Last year, the GNF donated more than $78,000 to 10 different local organizations, with $45,000 of the total going directly to the Salvation Army to support Lynn and the surrounding communities.

“We have successfully raised $1.5 million dollars since 2010 and with your help we hope to set the bar higher,” GE said.

GE also matches 50 cents on every dollar raised by Lynn employees, which is donated to the United Way of the Greater Boston area. United Way actively supports local organizations whose initiatives and programs focus on responding to COVID-19, meeting essential needs, ending homelessness, moving families out of poverty, and preparing youth for success.
