December 28, 2022 by Joey Barrett

It’s official, the Prep’s wrestling team won the Marshfield Holiday Tournament on Wednesday and continued its dominance on the mats. The high-flying Eagles won 240.5-175, and individual champions were Alex Schaeublin (113), Jayden D’Ambrosio (138), Rawson Iwanicki (160), and Charlie Smith (285).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Medfield 70, Fenwick 44
At the Oliver Ames Christmas Tournament on Wednesday, Medfield’s sharpshooting and execution were too much for the Crusaders’ girls basketball team. Despite the loss, Fenwick remains 3-2 and plays in the consolation game of the Ames tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Salem Academy 58, Fenwick 32
The Fenwick boys basketball team was defeated by Salem Academy 58-32 at home. Despite the loss, December has seen its fair share of positives for the Crusaders. In Fenwick’s win over Winthrop last week, James Meklis scored 16 points and, two nights later, followed it up with 30 against Peabody. Meklis and company look to rebound from back-to-back losses on Friday against Bishop Feehan with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Winthrop 3, PLNR 1
Against a strong Winthrop team, the Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading girls hockey team lost 3-1 at O’Keefe Rink. Ava Buckley was the lone goal-scorer, while Alys Mutti also played well. Hannah Gromko was given the game-puck for her effort from start to finish.

St. Mary’s 4, Pope Francis 1
Another game at Connery Rink, another win for St. Mary’s girls hockey. In versatile fashion with three goal-scorers, the Spartans continued their high-scoring output this season. Jenna Chaplain (2), Abbie Poole, and Maggie Pierce had the St. Mary’s goals as the Spartans remained perfect at 5-0 this season.

BOYS HOCKEY

BC High 2, St. John’s Prep 1
The Prep’s Christian Rosa scored a rebound goal five minutes into the game on the powerplay, but the Eagles lost to BC High in overtime 2-1. After Rosa’s early tally, the score remained the same until BC High tied things 1-1 with Matt Cox ripping one past Prep goalie Brian Cronin in the third. Jackie Murphy won it for BC High just 37 seconds into overtime.
