To the editor:
As I sit in MGH Boston’s emergency room with a very ill family member who is in pain, I can’t understand why waiting hours and hours to be seen and evaluated has become acceptable and commonplace, day in and day out.
While knowing we are in a time with unprecedented COVID/RSV and other issues that caused these poor doctors and nurses to be pushed to the breaking point, one can’t help but wonder why hospitals keep closing.
Why do healthcare conglomerates fight safe staffing requirements even back before COVID was a thing?
No one should have to wait six to 12 hours or more when they are in their most vulnerable moment! (And these wait times were common before COVID).
I’m sure there will be a lot of data and rebuttal about this letter from the healthcare conglomerates explaining why it’s complicated.
I wish they would spend more time fixing the problem than fighting common sense.
