January 4, 2023 by Charlie McKenna

PEABODY — A mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon, and police are now asking the public for help identifying a suspect, officials said.

Police were called to Veterans Memorial Drive at 12:27 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery, Peabody police said in a statement. When officers arrived, a mail carrier told them he had been approached from behind by a suspect carrying a black firearm who demanded his keys to postal boxes.

The suspect was described as an African American man in his 20s with a skinny build, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a puffy black jacket with a yellow hoodie and a blue face mask, according to the statement. He fled the scene in a gray Honda, police said.

The robbery is being “actively investigated,” and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Matthew Mason at 978-538-6369 or Detective Andrew Greenberg at 978-538-6313.
