January 5, 2023 by Joey Barrett

The Lynn Classical Lady-Rams defeated Medford in enemy territory on Thursday by a score of 43-38. Senior Lauren Henessey led all scorers with 12 points, followed by fellow senior Akiyah Brown with 10. Nearing the half-way point of the season, Classical remains perfect at 8-0 and returns to action Tuesday at home against Malden.

BOYS BASKETBALL

English 85, Somerville 38
The Lady-Rams weren’t the only team to improve to 8-0 on Thursday – so did the Bulldogs’ boys basketball team, taking care of Somerville 85-38 on the road. Warren Keel Jr. had 23 points and eight assists alongside 11 steals, and Nelson Obarisiagbon had 16 points and 17 rebounds. Josh St. Jean scored 15 points while hauling down 13 boards, and the sharpshooting Tyrese Melo García tacked on 13 points and 11 assists.

TRACK AND FIELD

Swampscott took part in a meet against Beverly and Winthrop on Thursday. Despite the Big Blue losing to Beverly (girls: 76-10, boys: 62-20), they defeated Winthrop (girls: 47-17, boys: 64-11) and had several notable performances. On the girls side, Sofia Alvarado ( 30′ 1.5, shot put), Samantha Andrews (8.6, 50yh), and Stella Sands (7.1, 50y) all impressed. For the boys, Caleb Leopoldo (41′ 1.0, shot put), Elliot Pulaski (8.1, 50yh), and Ethan Gee (5.6, 50y) all caught eyes.
