SALEM — The Salem Police Dive Team and Massachusetts State Police Dive Team searched the water off Juniper Beach in Salem Wednesday in conjunction with the missing persons case of Michael Gray. Members of the Criminal Investigation Divisions from both Peabody Police Department and Salem Police Department were on the scene, according to a press release from Salem PD.
“The investigation and search are related to a missing persons case that originated in Peabody. Prior to the person being reported missing, some items of clothing were found near the beach. At the time, officers were unaware that these may be connected,” the press release said.
Gray of Maine went missing on Dec. 10 and was last seen in Peabody. Gray is described as a 31-year-old white male with long brown hair, blue eyes and tattoos. He is approximately 6 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 2 inches tall.
Peabody Police Chief Thomas Griffin said the search at Juniper Beach was prompted by the discovery of Gray’s motor vehicle parked across the street from the beach.
On Wednesday, officials searched the beach and water after “obtaining additional information” and resources, the press release said.
“The investigation is continuing by both Salem and Peabody detectives,” the press release said
Griffin said the department remains hopeful.
“We’ve been checking different scenarios but haven’t been able to locate him yet,” Griffin said. “Salem Police has an outstanding dive team and we continue to keep our hopes up that he will be located.”
