Item Athlete of the Week – Cecilia Kay

Joey Barrett

January 23, 2023 by Joey Barrett

You know what I’ve been thinking? A few weeks ago, when St. Mary’s girls basketball head coach Jeff Newhall called Fenwick’s Cecilia Kay “one of the best players in the state,” he was spot-on. Last week was just another for Kay, but impressive nonetheless. For those who don’t know, Kay is as versatile as it gets – she can shoot, finish, facilitate, and rack up rebounds on either end of the court. Against Central Catholic last week, she scored 20 points to go along with eight rebounds in Fenwick’s 66-56 victory. Days later, she followed it up with another 20 and 10 boards against a tough Cathedral team. It doesn’t matter if she’s playing on her home-court, or in enemy territory, Kay will deliver with a strong performance. The Crusaders sit at 7-5 this season, as Kay and the rest of her team aim for a late-season run. Cecilia, good week.
