English track and field runs past Classical

Joey Barrett

January 25, 2023 by Joey Barrett

On a night where many games across the North Shore were postponed due to poor weather, there was still some action. In a GBL track meet in Revere, rivals Classical and English squared off. On the girls’ side, English won 57-20. Cynaya Jackson impressed for the Bulldogs with a 28′ 03″ in shot put. Aida Bellal ran a 50.9 in the 300m, while Classical’s Mariana Deleon caught eyes with a 4.11.8 in the 1000m. For the boys, it was a close meet, but English ran away (no pun intended) with a 40-36 victory. In the 300m, Isaiah Goorahlal impressed with a 44.5. And despite the loss, Classical’s Kymani Phipps impressed with an 8.0 in the 50yh, as well as Nestor Rodriquez with a 5.9 in the 50y.

BOYS HOCKEY

Lynnfield 4, Triton 2

How does a team defend its No. 1 spot in the MIAA Power Rankings? It defeats its next opponent 4-2 to move to 10-0-1 (5-0-0 CAL) on the season. Joe Raffa, Jack Carpenter, Evan Rocha, and Will Norton all scored, and Lynnfield goalie Dan McSweeney stood tall with 20 saves.

GIRLS HOCKEY

PLNR 5, Gloucester 3

PLNR continued its stellar season on Wednesday, defeating Gloucester 5-3 at home. Angela Fabbo, Jenna DiNapoli, Shirley Whitmore, Penny Spack, and Ava Buckley were the goal-scorers in a versatile offensive attack. PLNR’s Mia Lava also impressed with a well-rounded showing in all three zones.
