The Lynn Classical swimming and diving team swam against Salem at Lynn Tech on Friday, earning its first win of the season 71-53. The Rams finished first in the 200 medley relay, courtesy of Ava Anderson, Amanda Hughes, Camille Mendonca and Andrew Moore. In the 200 free, Classical went 1-3 with Mendonca winning and Marcus Ryan taking 3rd. In the 200 individual medley, Gianna Fortes finished first with Victoria Marler coming in second. The 100 breaststroke had the Rams finishing 1-2-3 with Hughes leading the way – followed by Fortes and Jarileny Cabral. As for diving, Anderson took home the victory as well.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Tech 92, Greater Lawrence 75
The Tigers swam all the way to the CAC Swim Championship on Friday, besting Greater Lawrence 92-75 on the road. Tech moved to 4-0 in the division and 4-2-1 overall. There were several first-place finishes, including Colin Donovan (200 free), Zak Bidoudane (200 IM), Vincent Marino (50 free), Lee Lewis (dive), Chris Rodriquez (100 free), and Addisyn Brown (500 free). Tech has a make-up meet Monday against Shawsheen, then hosts the CAC championship meet on Thursday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
St. Mary’s 63, Feehan 62
In a tough matchup on the road, the Spartans just barely held on against Bishop Feehan. David Brown had 27 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Nick Sacco scored nine points alongside 12 rebounds. Omri Merryman also added 10 points.
KIPP 72, Northeast Metro 51
Things were close at halftime, but the Panthers ran away with a 72-51 win against Northeast Metro after a dominant second half. KIPP went 2-0 this past week, as head coach Moody Bey and the rest of the Panthers seem to have found their momentum.
Lynnfield 53, Triton 40
The Lynnfield boys basketball team moved to 8-5 on the season with an impressive victory over Triton at home. Alex Gentile scored 16 points, while Cam Marengi (16) and Gavin Deluties (10) also contributed in the victory.
Swampscott 62, Gloucester 58
Trailing by one going into the fourth quarter, the Big Blue battled back to pick up their fifth win of the season. Liam Wales (eight points) sank four clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Swampscott was led by Max Brodsky (22 points) and Connor Chiarello (17). Riad Benagour chipped in with nine points and led the team in blocks and rebounds.
Beverly 86, Peabody 70
Unfortunately for the Tanners, Beverly’s Ryder Frost scored 40 points to lift his team to a home victory. For Peabody, Shea Lynch had 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Anthony Forte scored 20 points alongside three assists. Danny Barrett tacked on 13 points, while Raphel Laurent added seven.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Saugus 63, Winthrop 61
Saugus head coach Mark Schruender said Friday’s matchup was “probably the most exciting game I’ve ever coached.” The game was back-and-forth, wire-to-wire – you name it. His Sachems were led by Ashleen Escobar (23 points) who put Saugus in position to win with her free throw shooting down the stretch. Peyton DiBiasio persevered through some injury scares and scored 18 big points. Captain Ashleigh Moore connected on a big three at the end of regulation, while fellow captain Jessica Bremberg played a fantastic defensive game.
Bishop Fenwick 60, Arlington Catholic 35
Fenwick moved to 9-5 this season with a dominant win over Arlington Catholic on Friday. Junior captain Cecilia Kay had 28 points and 8 rebounds, while freshman Celia Neilson had 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Senior captains Erica Lendall (five assists) and Ava Bellacini (six rebounds and three steals) also played major roles in the win.
Peabody 60, Beverly 30
The Peabody girls basketball team (10-1) qualified for the state tournament after doubling up Beverly on Friday night. The Tanners were led by Logan Lomasney with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Taylor Bettencourt added 13 points and seven assists. Abby Bettencourt scored 10 points alongside five rebounds and four assists. Jess Steed, Sophia Coburn, and Alli Bettencourt also performed well.
