English girls race past Malden

The Lynn English girls track and field team won its Greater Boston League meet on Monday 45-41 against Malden. Cynaya Jackson impressed in shot put (29′ 5.50), while Zainab Lawal ran the 50yd in 9.1. Victoria Samuel also put on a show with a time of 6.5 in the 50y, and Lillian Idowu ran the 600m in 2:11.0. The boys lost 78-8, but Waleri Mora Cruz threw a 37′ 9.00 in shot put.

TRACK AND FIELD

Classical lost to Revere on Monday, but not without some standouts. Moroniqua Pierresin impressed in shot put (21′ 08.5″), while Kassandra Pena ran the 50y in 7.2. Isabella Pimentel also ran a 57.1 in the 300m. On the boys’ side, Geovanni Pena threw a 31 ‘05.5″ in shot put, while Kymani Phipps ran the 50yh in 8.1. John Nasky also impressed in the 50y with a time of 6.2, and the 300m with a 42.5.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Shawsheen 98, Lynn Tech 87

Despite the close loss for Tech swimming and diving on Monday, several Tigers impressed. Zak Bidoudane collected first place in the 200 individual medley, while Lee Lewis scored a 189.60 in diving, beating her own school record. Addisyn Brown also caught eyes, snagging first in the 500 free. Other athletes who impressed were Rashaud Newhall (first in 100 backstroke) and Vincent Marino (first in 100 breastroke). The Tigers are now 4-3-1.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northeast Metro 50, Lynn Tech 47

Tech was bested at the hands of Northeast Metro 50-47 on the road. The Tigers’ Engelyz Bingham had 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Divine Egbuta had 11 points, 17 rebounds, and two steals. Aliyah Volquez added five points, six rebounds, three steals, and three assists, while Lesnee Izaguirre put up eight points. The Tigers’ record still stands at a strong 9-4.

GIRLS HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 8, Arlington Catholic 0

Those Spartans sure can score. The St. Mary’s girls hockey team defeated Arlington Catholic 8-0 at Connery Rink in Lynn with Kasey Litwin leading the way with two goals.
