LYNN — A double shooting on Waterhill Street early Friday morning led to the arrests of two Lynn men — Corif Rudolph, 25, and Terrel Payne, 28.
Lynn Police responded to reports of shots fired outside 103 Waterhill St. at 12:31 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, officers saw a 29-year-old man outside who had been shot in the leg.
Upon entering the single story home, officers discovered a 28-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in the upper torso and suffered life-threatening injuries.
The victim discovered outside was transported to Salem Hospital for treatment, Lynn Police said. The 28-year-old victim was transported to Mass General Hospital. Lynn Chief of Police Christopher Reddy said that the 28-year-old had undergone surgery, and, as of 3 p.m. Friday, was still in critical condition.
At 4:32 a.m. police arrested Payne in connection to the shooting, and charged him with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm without a license, and two counts of armed assault to murder.
Rudolf was also arrested at the scene on a default warrant from Somerville District Court.
Chery, a nearby Waterhill Street resident, said that she was in bed, when she and her husband were woken up by five shots in the middle of the night.
“They were definitely shots — it’s a pretty easy distinction between firecrackers and shots. I was shocked, my husband went downstairs to see what was going on,” Chery said.
Until 1:45 p.m. Friday, Lynn Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker were executing a search warrant at the house, walking out with boxes.
Chery said that while she hadn’t heard gunshots on her street before Friday night, she frequently heard commotion coming from across the street.
“They’re always arguing, always,” she said. “I’ve never heard shots before though, it’s a very quiet neighborhood.”
Massachusetts State Police and Lynn Police are still investigating this incident.
