You know what I’ve been thinking? When you hit a game-winning basket as time expires, that’s well-deserving of the Item Athlete of the Week award. During Lynnfield’s girls basketball game on Tuesday, the Pioneers were trailing Rockland 41-39 as Jaelynn Moon tied the game with three seconds remaining. From there, Rockland had one more chance, but Gamache had different plans. Bella George stole in the inbound pass and fed the ball to Gamache who scored the winning basket as time expired. The win was Lynnfield’s eighth of the season as Gamache (seven points) played the role of the hero. Head coach Susan Breen described it simply as an “incredible finish,” and I couldn’t agree more. Even though I’m jealous I never did that during my playing days, Ava, good week.
