Down 2-0, no problem. The Lynn Jets faced adversity Saturday afternoon at Connery Rink, but fought all the way back to win against St. Joseph’s Prep 3-2. Matthew Cote and Kyle Furlong (2) each scored, while Tyler Whitten, Jayden Leblanc, and Owen Travers all recorded assists.

Lynnfield 6
Rockport 1

You know what they say – Senior Day is always better with a win. The Pioneers kept their stellar season intact with a 6-1 victory against Rockport on Saturday afternoon. Jarret Scoppettuolo and Dylan Damiani paved the way with two goals apiece, while Drew Damiani and Will Norton also scored. Joe Raffa, Jack Carpenter, Aidan Norton, Jake Connell, Jack Neenan, and Timmy Sullivan all recorded assists. Dan McSweeney impressed with 21 saves on 22 shots.

St. John’s Prep 5
Newburyport 1

Consider them clipped. The St. John’s Prep hockey team was ahead 4-0 after the first period and ran away with a victory against the Newburyport Clippers on Saturday, winning 5-1 on home-ice. Freshman Ethan Goodrich scored his first career goal as the Prep upped its record to 14-1–1 on the season.

Somerville 4
Swampscott 0

The Swampscott boys hockey team dropped its second straight game on Saturday, losing to Somerville 4-0. The Big Blue recently scored 23 goals in three games this month, but have scored two in their last two outings. That said, Swampscott remains at 10-6 this season and takes on Rockport at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Masco 5
Fenwick 2

Masco held on to the Bob Driscoll Classic trophy with a 5-2 victory against Bishop Fenwick. Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for Crusaders fans to take away as Josh Millman stood strong with 28 saves. Cam Anderson and Gerry Visconti each scored.

Marblehead 6
Danvers 2

The Headers played a strong first period on Saturday and took the early momentum all the way to the end. After a two-goal first, Marblehead exploded for another three in the second before tucking its last in the third. The Headers won the shots on goal category (24 to 19) and return to action Monday against Gloucester.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Fenwick 2
Stoneham/Wilmington 1

Bishop Fenwick doubled up Stoneham/Wilmington on Saturday with a 2-1 victory in enemy territory. Penny Levine Stein and Ali Sprissler were the heroes on the evening, recording two points apiece. Ella Tucker protected the Fenwick net with 21 saves.

WRESTLING

In the Division II North Sectional Tournament at Salem High, Lynnfield-North Reading placed 11th out of 13 teams, scoring 73 points with five place finishers. Last year, the team finished 14th out of 14 teams, scoring 27 points with just one place finisher. David Glynn (126, fifth), Cam Arya (132, sixth), Gavin Iby (145, fourth), James Fodera (182, second), and Dave Poirier (195, sixth) all impressed. Fodera and Iby qualified for the Division II state tournament this Friday or Saturday at Milton High. “We had an outstanding tournament. We have been exceeding expectations all season with a limited number of wrestlers, and at the tournament those same wrestlers were able to showcase their talent at a very competitive tournament,” head coach Craig Stone said. “They have faced all kinds of adversity all season long, and they have remained disciplined and focused on the results.”

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Bishop Fenwick swam in the North Girls Sectionals at the Greater Beverly YMCA on Saturday and didn’t disappoint, placing eighth out of 26 teams. Freshman Caroline Blatchford (200 IM, sixth overall, 2:18.88; 100 freestyle, sixth overall, 56.28), senior captain Audrey Waldinger (100 fly, fifth overall, 1:02.39), and sophomore Hannah Ryan (100 free, 10th overall, 56.40) each impressed for the Crusaders. The trio, as well as Hannah English finished seventh overall in the 200 freestyle relay with a fantastic time of 1:45.82.

For St. Mary’s, Isabella Morillo attended and swam a fantastic meet. Morillo finished 15th overall in the 200 IM and 24th in the 100 backstroke. The swimmer is on to the state championships at MIT on Saturday.
