The KIPP boys basketball team escaped with a 56-53 victory against Greater Lowell on Tuesday. Whether you know him from the football field or the basketball court, Vic Mafo played the role of the hero with 27 points.

Talk about defending your home gym – the St. Mary’s boys basketball team defeated the Shamrocks 77-48 on Tuesday. Anthony D’Itria led the way for the Spartans with 21 points as Feehan had no answer.

Despite the 60-43 loss, there were positives to take away if you root for the Big Blue. Connor Chiarello led the way for Swampscott with 12 points, while Riad Benagour put up nine. Max Brodsky and Andrew Templeman each tallied eight. “We got outplayed today,” Swampscott head coach Jason Knowles said.

Cape Ann League Large champions? No problem. The Lynnfield boys basketball team defeated the Clippers 55-42 at home with Gavin Deluties (23 points) leading the way. Also contributing were Chris Daniels (10), Alex Fleming (eight), and Alex Gentile (eight). “Great team win in what was the best we’ve played all year,” Lynnfield head coach John Bakopolus said. “[I’m] really proud of our guys.” The Pioneers upped their record to 13-6 with the victory.

They don’t talk about Tiger Pride for nothing. Lynn Tech won by 50 points Tuesday night against Minuteman as Giovanni Jean led the way with 18 points and six assists. His partner-in-crime in the backcourt Andy Batista put up 14 points and five assists, while Brandon Antwine scored 16 points to go along with three assists. The Tigers moved to 16-3 overall and 11-1 in the conference.

The Shamrocks snapped the Spartans’ 15-game winning streak in a 58-51 decision. Despite the loss, St. Mary’s (17-2) Niya Morgen continued her stellar play with 19 points. After a tough test on the road, St. Mary’s returns to play in the Spartan Classic later this week.

Minuteman 44
Tech won its third straight on Tuesday in 52-44 fashion against Minuteman. Aliyah Volquez had 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Divine Egbuta tallied 10 points, 18 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. That’s not all. Engelyz Bingham put up 10 points and nine rebounds, Elibette Rodriguez had eight points and seven boards, and Allison Morales had four points, six blocks, and four steals. “This was a huge team win from start to finish as Minuteman came into the game 17-1 and undefeated in the conference,” Tech head coach Kaitlyn Wechsler said. The Tigers leaped to 13-6 with the win.

The Rams charged their way to an 18-0 record with a narrow five-point victory against Triton. Classical’s leading scorer was senior Lauren Henessey with 17 points, followed by sophomore Keisha Perez who put up 11. Senior Ava Thurman also impressed with nine points. Classical returns to action Thursday against Saugus (6 p.m.) on Senior Night. The seniors are Akiyah Brown, Hennessey, Kylee Mills, and Thurman.
