LYNN– Lynn Woods Elementary students wrote Valentine’s Day cards for 50 veterans in advance of Valentine’s Day last week.
Third and fourth graders participated in making the cards through the school’s partnership with Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, which distributed the cards to veterans. Lynn Woods Principal Ellen Fritz said that the students who participated were happy to show an appreciation for those who have served the country.
“The students were thrilled to do it, not just because it’s a fun, creative activity, but more so because we really emphasize the value of appreciating and respecting our veterans,” Fritz said. “So when we saw the opportunity to work with them, we were more than happy to embrace it.”
Along with the card, each veteran received a bag containing a heart balloon and a cardigan sweater.
Deanna O’Donnell, the funeral director at Cuffe McGinn, helped deliver the cards to the Bedford Veterans Affairs Hospital Volunteer Services and thanked those involved for making veterans feel appreciated on the holiday.
“I would just like to say that it was an honor to work with Lynn Woods Elementary School and the Bedford VA Hospital Volunteer Services to make Valentine’s Day special for our veterans,” she said. “We truly appreciate them more than words can express.”
