You know what I’ve been thinking? Rather, it’s a fact that KIPP’s boys basketball team has won five of its last six games – three of them this past week. With an average winning margin of eight points throughout its 3-0 week, KIPP defeated Greater Lowell Tech (56-53), the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell (63-45), and Mystic Valley (58-55). The Panthers’ multi-sport star (football) Vic Mafo dropped 27 points to kick things off against Greater Lowell Tech, and two days later, the Panthers clinched their spot in the tournament. Then, Trosky Pena hit a game-winning three against Mystic Valley to complete, frankly, a magical week for the program. KIPP upped its record to 11-8 and will finish its regular season Wednesday at Cathedral (3:30 p.m.). To head coach Moody Bey and the rest of the Panthers, good week.
