You know what I’ve been thinking? When you’re 21-1, you’re pretty good. The St. Mary’s girls hockey team has been on a roll for months, and last week was no exception. The Spartans went 3-0 with victories over Billerica/Chelmsford, Malden Catholic, and Notre Dame. Better yet, they outscored their opposition 11-2 over the span to extend their winning streak to eight. Against Billerica, superstar Maggie Pierce led the way with two goals, followed by Amanda Forziati and Abbie Poole who also joined the goal-scoring party. The next day – well, it was pretty similar. Pierce scored two more goals and Ang Catino picked up her 13th shutout of the season. And a few days later – in a matchup of the two top-ranked teams in Division I – St. Mary’s defeated Notre Dame 3-2 with Gabbi Oakes, Kasey Litwin and Gianna Young all finding the back of the net. To the Spartans, who have all kinds of momentum heading into the postseason, good week.
