LYNN — Three men were arrested in connection to a shooting at 132 Southside Ave. Monday night.
Kyle An, 18, of Lynn; Dakota Chau, 20, of Haverhill; and Andy Ly, 22, of Lynn were held in Lynn District Court Tuesday for a variety of firearm charges, including armed assault with intent to murder, after the group allegedly open fired on the home the night before.
Lynn Police responded to reports of gunshots in the area at approximately 10:47 p.m. Monday. Lynn Police Lieutenant Michael Kmiec said that upon arrival, police found multiple bullet holes in the house, and more than six shell casings across the street.
Resident Janet Peterson said that she and her husband, Jason Peterson, were watching television upstairs when she heard the shots.
“We just heard, pop, pop and like a smash. For a second I thought maybe we forgot to put the dog away and she knocked something over,” Janet said. “It happened so fast and it was rapid, pop pop, pop, pop, I counted six or seven sounds. When I realized that it was gunshots I yelled ‘That’s a gun, get down!’ ”
Bullets shot through the Petersons’ front porch screen and the house’s front windows. One bullet hit a television just inches above the family dog’s sleeping crate, while another one went through the wall to the spot on the couch where Janet said her son, Adam Peterson, normally sits.
While none of the Petersons were injured, Janet and Jason’s daughter Hannah Peterson was lying in bed when a bullet flew in from her window and got lodged in her mattress, directly below her ear.
“It happened very quickly, because they were close. But it was very hot [the bullet going through her mattress] and I knew it was a bullet,” Hannah said. “I knew it was a gun, and it hurt really bad.”
Kmiec said police arrested the suspects a short time after the shooting, when they saw three individuals who matched witnesses’ descriptions walking around the Curwin Circle area.
Police also found a discarded pistol in the Curwin Circle area that they believe to be associated with the shooting.
Janet said that Adam used to be friends with Chau, one of the alleged gunmen. On Tuesday, March 14, the three suspects will be heard in a dangerousness hearing at Lynn District Court.
“Luckily we went to bed early, because if we had been down — I mean, that’s a gunshot wound right there,” Janet said, pointing to a bullet hole inches above the couch. “That’s where my son usually sits.”
