LYNN — LEAP for Education announced former Superintendent of Schools and the state’s newly elected Secretary of Education, Dr. Patrick Tutwiler, as its keynote speaker for the annual “Great Expectations” fundraiser.
During this event, set for April 12, Tutwiler will also receive LEAP for Education’s Distinguished Leader Award.
For years, Tutwiler has been a strong supporter of the nonprofit, which provides free comprehensive academic, social-emotional, post-secondary and career services to more than 600 underserved North Shore youth. Tutwiler said LEAP is doing wonderful things for students.
“It engages learners, gives them a sense of hope and purpose about their future and connects them with the resources and opportunities to explore their own interests in their own way,” Tutwiler said. “LEAP is really moving the needle, and I couldn’t be more honored to receive this award from them.”
“Secretary Tutwiler is a worthy guest of honor,” LEAP said in a press release. “He was instrumental in introducing LEAP to Lynn Public Schools in 2020.”
Since coming to Lynn, LEAP’s middle school program has grown from 30 to 150 youth and will soon expand to serve approximately 50 high school students in the coming year.
“[Tutwiler] not only supported LEAP’s move to Lynn but also nurtured our growth and success there,” said LEAP Executive Director and Founder, Linda Saris. “While we are sorry to lose his close personal involvement, we are thrilled to know his vision, talents, and ability to deliver will now benefit students throughout Massachusetts.”
“Great Expectations” will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Danversport Yacht Club.
Tickets for the event are $120, with tables for eight available at $900. Registration, donation, and auction portals can be accessed at https://leap4ed.org/great-expectations/.
