You know what I’ve been thinking? I love when a player not only maintains his or her strong play in the postseason, but rather, elevates it. Simply put, that’s exactly what Cecilia Kay of the Bishop Fenwick girls basketball team did this past week. The Crusaders (Division 3) had two playoff games, and the junior forward did her thing – and then some. Against Watertown, a game in which Fenwick won 55-36, the righty scored 20 points alongside 10 rebounds. A few days later with Archbishop Williams in town, she put up a stellar 23 points and 17 rebounds in her team’s 59-35 victory. I was right there behind the scorer’s table, and I loved how Kay scored the game’s first points. She didn’t settle for a jumper, but rather, took it hard to the rack and finished a tough and-one while falling to the hardwood. Call me old-fashioned, but the play completely set the tone and showed Archbishop Williams that Fenwick meant business. Cecilia, who you’d think is a senior with how mature she plays, good week.
