Northern Essex Community College Interim Student Recruitment Director Loreen Tirrell, of Nahant, appeared on the Lynn Community Television “History Of Success” program to talk about the measures the college takes toward student success.
Northern Essex Community College Provost Paul Beaudin was also a guest for the program, which is hosted by Judith Josephs.
“We talked about how Northern Essex is an option for students from that Lynn area and Salem, Peabody,” Tirrell said.
They discussed the college’s culinary program, theater program, the school newspaper, and life on campus.
“[Josephs] asked us a lot about programs that Northern Essex offers that North Shore Community College doesn’t,” Tirrell said.
The application process for the college was discussed as well. Tirrell and Beaudin described the “roadmap” the college has to guide students through the entire college process.
“What I’m hoping they’ll take out of it is that the community colleges should be considered as an option as viable as any four year school,” Tirrell said. “I think there’s a lot of misconception about what community college is for, and what we’re hoping is that people realize that community college should be a choice.”
Not only is Tirrell the interim student recruitment director, but she is also a professor of culinary arts and business, Josephs said.
“[Tirrell] has a really interesting background,” Josephs said.
One of her favorite parts of hosting and producing the “History of Success” is the people she meets through it.
“[Tirrell] is certainly a person that I’d like to and I hope to make a friend,” Josephs said. “Because she’s interesting and she has had such a varied background and a background that I appreciate.”
