SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott High School Parent Teacher Forum and students from the junior and senior classes are hosting the “Anchor’s Away Auction” on Friday in the school’s cafeteria from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. To attend, tickets can be purchased for $35 before the auction or for $45 at the door.

There will be a live performance from The Taylor Twins with Tom Reid, appetizers, and a cash bar featuring Bent Water Brewing Company.

Some of the items being auctioned off are Red Sox tickets, themed baskets from each class, tech services, a three-night stay at Martha’s Vineyard, free parking spaces at the high school, front row seats at graduation, and more.

“We have tons of really great valuable items, probably over 40 silent auction items, and I think three or four live ones,” parent volunteer Gargi Cooper said. “The parents did a really nice job donating funds and auction items.”

Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald provided auction items, including the chance to spend half a day with Police Chief Ruben Quesada, she said.

“We’re just hoping people will come and support the students,” Cooper said. “I think it’s a nice night to come out and see people and just enjoy the school community.”

Cooper said that due to COVID-19, raising funds for the students over the past few years has been a big challenge.

“We’re trying to get back to encouraging the kids to help throw a bigger event for the community and promote equity among the classes so that everyone can afford a ticket for end of the year activities, whether it’s a prom or a yearbook,” Cooper said.

She said that is why she personally wanted to get involved with the auction.

“The main goal is to ensure that the prices are reduced so they’re affordable for all the families to be able to participate in the activities,” Cooper said.
