SWAMPSCOTT — Select Board Vice Chair David Grishman has announced that he will be running for reelection, according to a March 21 press release from Grishman.
Grishman has been serving on the Select Board since 2020.
“Starting in the height of the pandemic and finishing with the most significant open space acquisitions for Swampscott in the past 50 years, serving on the Swampscott Select Board has been an incredible experience,” Grishman said. “But there is so much more for us to do and I believe my experience makes me the right choice to ensure continued momentum for Swampscott.”
According to Grishman, the “key drivers” for Swampscott are fiscal discipline and creativity.
“We did not get to financial strength through luck and financial strength does not mean we can just spend money now,” he said. “It has been a multi-year concerted effort with the Select Board, Finance Committee, and town finance staff taking the lead in ensuring we budgeted only for the most important and most efficient programs.”
Due to this careful planning, Grishman said, the town was able to fund the construction of the new elementary school, invest in open space, and increase funding for elder and veteran services.
On March 1, the Select Board announced that they had reached an agreement to purchase a property at 12-24 Pine St. The 15,700-square-foot property is adjacent to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1240 building, which sits on town-owned land.
The land will be used to create 30 to 40 units of veteran affordable housing.
Grishman said he is proud of his role in this project, according to the press release.
“Swampscott’s investment in veteran affordable housing is unprecedented and will serve as a model to other communities. Investment in our veterans and seeing this project through to reality are key priorities for me,” Grishman said.
In the 2023 election on April 25, there will be two open Select Board seats.
“Great things are happening in Swampscott,” Grishman said. “With the support of residents and voters in town, I very much look forward to continuing the hard work for the town for another three years.”
