LYNN – The Rotary Club of Lynn recognized seven eighth graders from the city’s middle schools at a Thursday luncheon as a part of the club’s eighth grade recognition program that has been operating for nearly 20 years.

The students recognized include: Andrew Lang, St. Pius; Derek Santa Cruz, St. Mary’s; Rachely Blanco Laro, Pickering; Bryna Otokunrin, KIPP Academy; Francis Militello, Breed; Bilder de Leon Pojoy, Lynn Tech; and Dany Ortega Bol, Thurgood Marshall.

Each of the students were recognized for overcoming adversity faced during the school year or showing empathy toward others in an impactful manner.

Nominations were made by teachers, counselors, or people that are close with the student.

At the luncheon, students were individually presented with gift certificates to a local bookstore, and a $25 gift certificate toward opening an account at River Works Credit Union, the company sponsoring the program.

Former Club President and former Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Raymond Bastarache spoke at the luncheon, citing the impact the program has on the city.

“One can tell how valued this program is to the City of Lynn by the people in attendance,” he said.
