REVERE — To say the bats were hot would be a massive understatement in English softball’s 32-20 demolition of Revere. The Bulldogs got it going early and never looked back on the road.
Leanyah Piniero and Gracie Mulloy each scored five runs, and Kate Johannson batted 3-for-5 with two RBI. Arianna Laboy pitched a complete game to go with an RBI, while Ariana Reynoso tacked on another four runs.
English looks to keep the offensive firepower intact Friday in a home game against Melrose at 10 a.m.
SOFTBALL
Swampscott 12
Winthrop 11
Mia Tringale “kept us in it” according to head coach Gary Moran, and the Big Blue squeaked past Winthrop 12-11 on Wednesday.
Tringale scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning on a passed ball, and that was all she wrote. Olivia Barletta impressed on offense with three doubles.
Swampscott returns to the diamond Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a road tilt against Peabody.
Salem 4
Marblehead 3
The Marblehead softball team played well, but was edged by a tough Salem team 4-3.
Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives for the Magicians. Pitcher Ruby Calienes struck out eight batters while allowing just four hits. On offense, Hailey Schmitt swung the bat well, going 3-for-4.
BASEBALL
English 10
Revere 9
Brendan Falasca led the way for the English baseball team with three hits in as many at-bats, and the Bulldogs edged Revere 10-9 on Wednesday.
It was smooth sailing to start with English opening up a four-run lead in the third inning. That said, the Patriots’ bats got hot (8 hits) in their comeback attempt to make things interesting.
Jason Figuereo started the game for English on the mound, surrendering eight runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings while striking out six.
English had eight total hits – two from Alijah Wallace to join Falasca in the multi-hit category.
Danvers 17
Marblehead 8
Danvers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 17-8 victory against Marblehead – headlined by six runs in the fifth inning.
Despite three-run efforts in the fifth and seventh innings, the deficit was just too much for Marblehead. Stefan Shepard, Shane Keough, and Chris Cannuscio all recorded two hits apiece for the Magicians, while Ian Maude retired four batters over 4 2/3 innings.
Marblehead travels to Gloucester Friday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
Saugus 7

For the boys, Henry Beutter impressed in the high jump with a 5 ‘2, while George Hosking jumped a 14 ‘4.25 in long jump. Ethan Gee threw a 39 ‘5 in shot put, and each of the top five finishers were Swampscott athletes in the category.

Lynn Tech vs. Notre Dame Academy Tyngsboro
The Tigers, and Lady Tigers, each took care of business in their first track meets of the season. The boys won 98-42, while the girls edged NDA 88-51.
The boys won both relays and received, frankly, a tremendous individual performance from Isaiah Marshall who took home the 400m hurdles, 100m hurdles, and triple jump. Joshua Lewis also impressed, winning shot put and discus.
On the girls’ side, Faith Akinbami won the 400m hurdles while Emily Dejesus won both discus and shot put.
