Lynn Classical's Ben Marciano (2 RBI) put on a show in his team's 6-0 victory against Malden on Wednesday.

The Lynn Classical baseball team picked up a hard-earned win against Malden on the road, as star pitcher TJ Walsh did his part with a complete game shutout to headline the 6–0 win.

The ace struck out eight batters, allowing just three hits and two walks. That’s not all. On offense, he roped two hits, while Sam Ohannesian went 2-for-2 and scored a run.

Christian Spates and Ben Marciano each tacked on two RBI, while Almani Jurado, Brady Warren, and Christian Figueroa each went home with a hit.

Classical travels to Swampscott at noon on Saturday.

BASEBALL

Masco 5
Saugus 3

With Saugus coach Joe Luis calling Wednesday’s game a heartbreaker, the Sachems couldn’t hang on against Masco. The game was tied 3-3 in the sixth inning, but the Chieftains pulled away.

The fourth inning had Saugus written all over it, however, as the Sachems put up three runs with Nathen Soroko and Cam Bernard each driving in runs.

Cam Soroko was on the mound for Saugus. The righty went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out nine.

Prep 10
Xaverian 4

St John’s Prep’s Joe Williams retired nine batters while allowing just seven hits against a very skilled Xaverian group. Will Shaheen batted 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Yanni Andrikopoulos plated two. Nick Lembo and Marco Zirpoli both tripled, and the Eagles picked up yet another win in the rivalry matchup.

SOFTBALL

Lynnfield 14
Ipswich 2

The run insurance was great, but it’s not like Lynnfield’s Sophia Brown necessarily needed it against Ipswich. The pitcher tossed six innings, allowing zero earned runs, seven hits, and just one walk to go with her five strikeouts.

Offensively, freshman Lily Williams recorded her first three career hits. Not only that, the hits drove in four runs. Ava Gamache connected on a three-run bomb and two singles, while Catie Kampersal also hit a two-run shot to go with an RBI single.

Lynnfield upped its record to 2-2 (1-2 in Cape Ann League).

Gloucester 4
Marblehead 3

In an eight-inning contest, Gloucester just barely edged Marblehead 4-3 on Wednesday. That said, Marblehead pitcher Tessa Francis put on a show, giving up two hits and zero walks while retiring five batters. Adding on to that, she batted 2-for-4 while Ruby Calienes went 2-for-3.

Catcher Luka Bornhorst was excellent behind the plate, throwing out two runners for the highlight reel.

Classical 13
Malden 3

The Rams charged on Wednesday, lighting up Malden for a 10-run victory at Breed Park in Lynn. Eliana Alas batted a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Manuela Lizardo went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Classical’s Rachel Dana pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits to go with her six strikeouts.

The Rams play at Newton South on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.

BOYS LACROSSE

Pentucket 14
Lynnfield 6

Lynnfield prides itself on being a physical team – as said by head coach Pat Lamusta last week. The Pioneers got to play that physical game on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough against Pentucket.

Despite the 14-6 final, Kelan Cardinal (1 goal, 2 assists) and Jack Calicham (3 assists) each stayed hot. Drew Damiani (2), Will Norton (2), and Owen Considine (1) all found twine, and Ben Pimentel played well with 20 saves for the Pioneers.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Fenwick 9
St. Mary’s 6

Despite Ava Nason (3 goals, 1 assist), Kasey Litwin (2 goals), Vanessa Hall (1 goal, 1 assist), and Jill Kirby (1 goal) all submitting strong performances, the Fenwick girls lacrosse team took care of the Spartans.

Payton Quirk racked up nine saves between St. Mary’s pipes, which will return to action Friday at 5 p.m. in a home tilt against Arlington Catholic.

VOLLEYBALL

KIPP 3
Lynn Tech 1

The KIPP Panthers got the better of Lynn Tech on Wednesday with a 3-1 win in set scores of 17-25, 13-25, 25-23, and 18-25. Didlaire Jacques Jr. had seven blocks and four kills, while Jeph Onyighichi recorded seven kills and two blocks. Jayden Tran added five digs and two aces, and Joseph Amaro put up three aces and three digs.

Tech’s record dipped to 0-3 with the loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Marblehead 4
Swampscott 1

Against rival Swampscott, Marblehead’s boys tennis team won 4-1 on Wednesday as its three singles players (Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, Matthew Sherf) won in straight sets.

In doubles, sophomores Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock beat juniors Trevor Talebian and Nick Custer (5-7, 6-2, 7-5).

“This was a highly-skilled doubles match with Etan and Jayden playing their best tennis,” Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal said.

The Magicians remained undefeated in league play (2-0).

GIRLS TENNIS

Marblehead 5
Swampscott 0

The Magicians put on quite the spell against Swampscott on Wednesday, winning 5-0 on the road. Despite the loss, the Big Blue fought extremely hard in the first round of doubles. Victoria Quagrello and Anna Ratner were just barely defeated (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).

Marblehead improved to 3-0 on the season as Pauline Geissler, Andrea Potvin, and Charly Cooper all won their singles matchups.

“There were some great, quality tennis matches played by both sides today. I also saw some outstanding sportsmanship between the two teams,” Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman said. “Our team continues to impress me with sheer scrappiness. We have not lost a singles match yet, [and] this team has great camaraderie and just does not give up.”
