The Saugus softball team picked up its second win of the season with a 13-5 victory against Winthrop on Friday. Sophomore Taylor Deleidi pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.
Captain Devany Millerick led by example, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Danica Schena followed, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. The Sachems’ next game is Monday when they travel to Waltham with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.

Alijah Wallace and Nevin Gonzalez combined to pitch a shutout for the Bulldogs. Wallace struck out four and allowed just one hit, while Gonzalez threw one inning of relief to maintain the shutout.
The Bulldogs got out to an early lead, scoring in the first inning before adding another six in the second. Also, the Bulldogs didn’t leave the diamond with many missed opportunities, scoring 13 runs on just eight hits.

Swampscott’s offense struggled against Winthrop’s pitching, as it only had four hits on Friday. Winthrop got out to an early lead after its catcher hit a two-run shot in the first inning, and the Vikings never looked back. Nick Berube had a good day at the plate for Swampscott, however, registering two hits.

Marblehead 5
It was one of those games – one where a few timely hits changed the outcome. Marblehead hit two home runs and out-hit Masco 10-9, but it wasn’t enough to hold on. Marblehead led 4-2 at one point, but Masco rallied back to escape victorious.

It was another no-hitter for Abby Bettencourt, who finished the game with 10 strikeouts and two walks while going 4-for-4 at the plate.
The Tanners flexed their offensive muscles with Isabel Bettencourt (2 RBI), Elizabeth Bettencourt (3 RBI), and Logan Lomasney (2 RBI) all hitting home runs. Kiley Doolin brought in three runs to help the Tanners secure the win.

It was a tough night for the short-handed Tigers. Despite the heavy loss, head coach Beth Mercaldi said the team’s spirits are still very high, and looks forward to working on adjustments through April break.

Three games in five days is tough on any team, and with some injured Spartans, there were many getting an opportunity to shine.
One player who coach Wayne Silva said is improving every day is freshman Chris Grossman. Jacob Gil also had a strong game according to Silva, coming up with some key saves between the pipes.
The Spartans will get some well-earned rest and won’t take the field again until next Saturday.

The Crusaders picked up a tough victory against a talented Triton team. The game could have gone either way, but Fenwick held on.
The Crusaders’ next game is Friday when they try to look for a similar result against Triton – this time in enemy territory.

The Spartans defended their home field with an impressive win against Arlington Catholic. Leading the way for the Spartans was Ava Nasson who potted seven goals.
It was also a special day for Gianna Young, who scored her first varsity goal. Payton Quirk had a solid game in net with seven saves.

In a close road match for the Crusaders, Madelyn Leary’s comeback was the difference-maker. Leary, playing second singles, came back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 5-4, 6-2.
The Crusaders’ next match is April 24 when they travel to face Cardinal Spellman.

It was a full sweep for the Lynnfield girls tennis team against Amesbury on Friday. In first singles, Paige Martino kicked off the match winning 6-1, 6-0 before Genna Gioioso followed, winning 6-1, 6-1.
In second doubles, Bella Nguyen and Madison Danese sealed the deal, winning both sets by a score of 6-4.
