The Lynn Classical baseball team sits at 3-0 in conference and 4-1 overall after defeating Swampscott 5-0 on Saturday. And, boy, was the box score impressive.
Classical sophomore Christian Figueroa finished a complete game shutout with six strikeouts, one walk, five hits, and, of course, zero runs allowed.
Three-sport Ram Brady Warren batted 2-for-4 with four RBI and a home run, while Yoniel Cabral ripped an RBI single for the Rams.
Classical travels to face English at 1 p.m. on Monday, while Swampscott looks for a road win against Stoneham on Tuesday (3 p.m.).
BASEBALL
Lynnfield 5
Belmont 3
Rob Higdon allowed just five hits and three runs in five innings, while Dan Dorman played well in relief to help Lynnfield defeat Belmont 5-3 at home on Saturday.
Dorman recorded a sac-fly in the first inning to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0, but Belmont stormed back to jump ahead 3-1.
But from there, four runs in the fourth inning did the trick for Lynnfield. Henry Caulfield roped a two-RBI double while Devin Bolger and Cam Marengi each hit RBI singles – talk about “timely hitting” as said by head coach John O’Brien.
“It was nice to answer after being down 3-1,” O’Brien said. “The kids played well. Credit to the kids.”
On top of his players, O’Brien also credited his assistant coaches Ben Kendrew, Mike O’Brien, Darren Damiani, Tom Englehart, and Brent Ashley for getting them prepared.
The Pioneers host Newburyport at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Pope Francis 3
St. Mary’s 1
The Spartans fought hard at the Pete Frates Diamond in Danvers, but fell 3-1 to Pope Francis on Saturday. St. Mary’s travels to take on Danvers Monday at 4 p.m.
Masco 10
English 3
The Lynn English baseball team stayed in it until the end, but errorless-Masco pulled away late in a 10-3 victory on Saturday. The game was tied 3-3 in the fifth, but a three-run showing in the same inning was enough for a Chieftains win.
English outhit Masco 6-4, scoring all of its runs on an RBI double from Jariel Benzan. Janier Rodriguez went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in the category.
Jason Figuereo was on the mound for English, surrendering three runs on two hits across four innings with a strikeout.

Brunswick 17
St. John’s Prep 10
The St. John’s Prep Eagles (4-1) were defeated by the Brunswick Bruins (6-2) Saturday afternoon by a score of 17-10. The Eagles failed to compete with the Bruins for ground balls, and struggled to handle the intensity and tempo of Brunswick.
Despite the loss, positives were taken away. Jimmy Ayers scored a hat-trick alongside an assist, Matt Morrow and Lucas Verrier each potted two goals, and Ryan DeLuica, Luke Kelly, and Drew Bossi all scored.
Prep goalie Gavin Kornitsky made 10 saves on 27 shots. The Eagles travel to take on Andover this Tuesday at 7 p.m.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Danvers 12
Marblehead 11
In a 6 p.m. showdown against Danvers on Saturday, the Marblehead girls lacrosse team was just barely defeated 12-11. The Lady Magicians now stand at 0-6 and 0-3 in the Northeastern Conference.
Addie Lydon stood strong for Marblehead with nine saves, and offense was aplenty. Sydney Langton scored a hat-trick and dished out an assist, while Lucy Wales scored twice while also picking up an assist.
Isabelle Ferrante scored three times and Ramona Gillett added two. Maddie Forbes registered two assists while picking up four wins at the draw.
