Boys volleyball is new to Lynn and on Monday morning, Classical picked up its first victory in the program’s history. The Rams defeated English 3-0 (25-7, 25-21, 25-21). The score was tied 5-5 in the first set before senior Andrew Jallow served 19 straight points, including three aces, to put the Rams up 24-6.
Sophomore outside hitter Viet Tran finished the game with 14 kills while fellow sophomore Josh Gonzalez contributed with four kills.
The Rams will look to carry momentum into their next game when they host Somerville on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

Tigers head coach Eddie Lewis said it was a “tough outing” for his team as Whittier had their number on the day. The Tigers will have a week to prepare for their next game on April 25 against Mystic Valley at 4 p.m.

The Spartans got the job done in five innings as pitchers Cam McGonagle (four strikeouts) and Josh Doney (two strikeouts) shared the mound and limited Danvers to just four runs. Center fielder Tad Giardina went 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and two triples. Giardina also brought in four runs. The offense was firing for the Spartans as they recorded 12 hits on the day.

It was a tough day for the Pioneers as they struggled for offense against an unyielding Amesbury pitcher who only allowed two hits. Morgan Hubbard (double) and Lauren Amico (single) were the lone hits for Lynnfield. The Pioneers’ next game is on Wednesday, when they host Pentucket.

When a team like Classical has an ace like MeKayla Poisson, the opposition will have a tough time hitting. Poisson pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts for the Rams. Junior Lauren Wilson led the offense, going 3-for-3 with 4 RBI including an inside-the-park grand slam in the first inning to kick off the scoring. The Rams had two players record their first hit in Alyssa Bennett and Emma Chevalier.

Despite the cold weather, the bats were hot for Saugus, with 15 runs on Monday putting its record at 3-1. Catcher Lily Ventre had two hits including a two-run homerun. Kaitlyn Pugh had herself a day, going 3-for-3 with 5 RBI. Taylor Deleidi pitched all five innings for the Sachems and recorded four strikeouts.

Swampscott picked up an impressive victory on the road against Salem. Coach Geoff Beckett said the team played “disciplined lacrosse and worked to get everyone involved.” The Big Blue moved the ball around as 10 different players scored. Beckett praised senior transfer Ronin Locke’s (two goals, one assist) performance, saying “Locke is new to the game and is starting to get more comfortable in the offense.” Liam Keaney led the Big Blue with four goals.

The Tanners went on the road and got the victory over the Magicians. Peabody led 8-2 at the half and maintained its six-goal lead until the final horn. Lucy Wales led the Magicians with three goals, while goalkeeper Addie Lydon recorded seven saves for Marblehead.

The Pioneers continued their strong start to the season with another victory, this time on the road. Sophomore Taylor Valiton led the way with eight goals while senior captain Chloe Considine finished the game with five assists. Goalie Casey Flynn made eight saves. Lynnfield’s record is now 5-0.

It was a dominant display from Swampscott on Monday afternoon. The undefeated Big Blue were led by Avery Laundry, who scored 4 goals. Sophia Ciciotti, Madeline Goldman, and Fiona Keaney each netted a hat trick. The Big Blue’s next game is on Tuesday, when they travel to Essex Tech.

The Eagles showed out, winning all three sets in another convincing win. Prep have won their last three volleyball matches 3-0. Under the direction of Kara Brown, the Eagles are truly a dominant force that doesn’t look to be stopping any time soon.

Despite the loss, the Sachems had a couple of performers stick out on the day. Saugus’ own Kaeleb Mathieu placed first in the 100-meter dash with an impressive time of 11.6 seconds. Ethan Malcolm finished second in the shot put with a throw of 33’9.

Diana Martinez-Sosa impressed Monday morning with a throw of 66’4 in the discus that was good enough for first place. Martinez-Sosa also claimed second place in the shot put with a throw of 25’10.25. Destiny Okoye narrowly finished second in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 13.7, two-tenths of a second slower than first place.
